Holiday Table Runner – Oh Christmas Tree

Guilty admission – I did not finish this project in time for Christmas!  I’m on a sewing binge to catch up on all my unfinished projects.  I’ll be caught up by February, I swear!

Holiday Table Runner - Oh Christmas Tree

Now back to the story of my December project….

—–

Now that I have my fabrics it’s time to decide on a pattern.

I want to keep it somewhat simple since I’ve had trouble meeting my goals of one table runner a month.  I like the idea of having some triangular Christmas trees but I’ll keep that to a small area.  I’ll use large panels of stripes since those will be very easy to sew.

My sideboard is 16″ x 54″.  My runner is be 15″ x 61″ plus a little extra for the binding.

First the trees.

On the ends of my runner I have 5 green triangles representing trees.  The finished size of my triangles are be 3″ wide and 3″ tall.  I used a “2 peaks in 1″ ruler and followed the 3 1/2” strip line.  I used a different green fabric for each tree and a different red fabric for the inverted triangles between the trees.

Since the red fabric is also be used for stripes I made sure that I had enough fabric to make 5 strips that are 3 1/2″ x   14 1/2″  in each red fabric.  I also needed to pay attention to the direction of the red fabrics.  For some fabrics I had to cut the strips for my triangles in a different direction than the long strips.

The stripes are next.

I created 4 panels that are 14 1/2″ long.  I added a few white squares for a snowy feel.

The finishing touches.

I hand quilted the runner with embroidery thread and finished the binding in my usual way.

    I absolutely love the runner.
    It is beautiful.
What a difference from picking the fabrics to the finished piece.
